Yelling "Row" (And Also Running Communications)
UNC Men's Rowing — Communications Director
How do you build a brand for a team no one really thinks about?
Off the water, I ran communications for the team across every channel, social, email, recruiting content, and the season graphics that showed up everywhere from race day posts to recruiting decks. I built and led a digital recruitment strategy that helped bring in a first-year class of 38 rowers, wrote and sent a regular newsletter to keep alumni, families, and recruits actually in the loop instead of guessing what was happening with the program, and ran the team's social presence day to day, including designing season graphics with a small team of teammates, so every post looked like it belonged to the same program instead of whoever happened to post that week.
The biggest swing was organizing the program's first-ever media day from scratch. It produced a library of 750+ professional photos that the team still uses across recruiting, social, and alumni communications. Four years as a coxswain taught me how to read people who couldn't hear a word I said over the water. Running comms for the team taught me how to make sure people who weren't even in the boat still felt like part of it.
